Kidney stones are mineral or organic deposition on the kidney, formed from the constituents of urine. Men between the age of 20-40 are more likely to suffer from this disease than women. Healthy Diet

Unhealthy food habits being the major cause of this disease, it is very important to change the diet. First of all it is very important to drink a lot of water and other liquids. This will not only help in draining out the toxins but also make it easy to pass out small size stones. Coconut water and fresh fruit juices are very beneficial in passing out of stone through the urine.

Juices of water melon and grapes have high water content and help in dissolving and passing out of the stone. Eating one apple a day also keeps kidney stones away. Certain vegetables are very useful in reducing kidney stones. The extracts of radish and juice of carrot helps to remove stones. Avoid vegetables and fruits like asparagus, cabbage, cauliflower, strawberries, etc.

Avoid intake of too much salts, calcium, phosphates and proteins in diet. Food rich in vitamin A and B6 should be consumed to prevent stone formation. Do not take alcohol and other carbonated beverages. Avoid spicy, oily and fried foods, chocolates and pickles, as they increase the chance of stone formation.

Lemon And Olive Oil

Lemon is very effective in reducing the formation of kidney stone because of high citrate content in it. Mixing of 60ml of lemon juice with equal amount of olive oil in a glass of water and drinking this mixture helps to pass out the stone in urine within 24hours. This therapy had been very effective and has given positive results in many cases. Drinking of only lemon juice has also been effective in many cases.

Pomegranate And Kulthi Dal

A paste should be prepared of pomegranate seeds. Kulthi dal needs to be cooked in water for few minutes. Add the pomegranate paste to the water containing kulthi dal. Mix well and drink this liquid few times in a day, preferably drink once in empty stomach.


A kidney tonifier, basil tea can be taken throughout the day for overall kidney health. If you have kidney stones, try taking one teaspoon each of basil juice with raw honey daily for up to six months. It’s believed that folk remedies with pure basil juice can help induce stone expulsion from the urinary tract.


The juice of few fresh basil leaves with a spoon of honey taken every morning also helps to get rid of kidney stone. This should be done for about 5-6 months. Chicken bone grass is also an effective herb in dissolving kidney stones. Boil extracts of onions in water for few minutes and allow it to cool. Add a spoon of sugar and drink it few times in a day for good results.


Both the seeds and juice of pomegranates have astringent properties that can help in the treatment of kidney stones.

Try to eat one whole pomegranate or drink one glass of freshly squeezed pomegranate juice daily. You can mix pomegranate in a fruit salad also.
Another option is to grind one tablespoon of pomegranate seeds into a fine paste. Eat this paste along with a cup of horse gram soup once daily. This remedy will help dissolve the stones. You can find horse gram in Indian markets.

Nettle Leaf

The leaf of the nettle herb has diuretic and anti-bacterial properties, making it another effective home remedy to help get rid of kidney stones. Simply use the nettle leaves to make a tea and drink it three times a day for up to three days.
