Cholesterol is a type of fatty substance that has a moderate amount of importance in your body. Its main function is to build the nerve cells and also help in certain amount of hormone secretion. Basically there are two types of cholesterol Low density lipoprotein (LDL) or High density lipoprotein (HDL).
They are also commonly known as bad cholesterol and good cholesterol respectively. Increase in growth of LDL or bad cholesterol will result in formation of plaque in the artery walls. This ultimately thickens the walls of the blood vessels and therefore disrupts blood flow causing heart attack or other major cardiac issues.
In order to keep your cholesterol level under control it is important that you should follow the following instructions:
Follow a healthy diet chart: In order to control the cholesterol level it is important that you should take care of what you eat daily. You should limit your daily intake of cholesterol up to maximum 300mg. Avoid too much of saturated fat and Trans fat as they will increase the level of your LDL cholesterol.
Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats are not harmful rather they encourage the growth of good cholesterol. Replace butter with margarine and red meat with poultry. Avoid whole milk dairy products and eggs. Drink low fat milks and lots of fruit juices.Â You should also eat lots of fruits, green vegetables and whole wheat grains in order to keep your cholesterol under control.
Exercise daily: It is very important to work out regularly. Exercising will help you to increase the good or HDL cholesterol level and lower the bad or LDL cholesterol level. Aerobic exercises like running, jogging, swimming, cycling, etc. are very good for your heart and cholesterol level. A regular work out for 60 minutes will help you to keep your cholesterol under control forever.
Lower your weight: If you are over weight than it is high time that you should control your weight. Being over weight can create too many health problems out of which increase in the LDL cholesterol level can be one. Thus, exercise at least for 90 minutes daily to control your weight and also watch out your diet chart. Avoid too much of fatty foods and drink a lot of water daily.
Ill habits: It is important that you should quit smoking and alcohol consumption in order to lower the bad cholesterol level.
