Blisters on fingers are nothing but small bumps, which develop serum like liquid in them. These blisters are sometimes painful and itchy. Blisters are non contagious. If blisters contain blood or yellow colored pus then it is advisable to immediately see a doctor as it can grow into an infection.

Causes of Blisters

The main causes of blisters on fingers are – continuous contact with an object which causes friction like lifting weights. Working with water for a long time can also cause small blisters to grow on fingers. First and second degree burns, caused due to exposure to intense heat may allow painful blisters to occur. Insect bites like spider bites can cause allergy and grow into blisters.

Reactions to products containing certain chemicals or products like detergents can cause blisters to grow. Allergies to certain metals, foods or plants can cause blisters to occur. Sometimes, if you do not pat dry your fingers then this can lead to blister fingers, which are not painful and can heal on their own. After effect of certain diseases like chicken pox also cause blisters on fingers.

Every person at some point in his life suffers from blisters on fingers. However, if blisters are prevented and cured appropriately, then problems caused due to blisters can be terminated effectively. It is necessary to find out the exact reason of blister occurrence so that proper steps can be taken to cure them. Before treating blisters wash your hands with soap and water to avoid infection.

Blister fingers can be treated if it is left to heal on its own. But if the liquid is in excess then it should be drained out by puncturing using a sterilized needle. If you are suffering from blisters caused due to burns then you should soak the burn in cool water, pat dry the skin and apply aloe vera gel or an antibiotic cream. To ensure that the blisters do not break, apply a bandage loosely over the fingers while working.

If you have blisters as an after effect of some disease or if you suffer from diabetes then instead of going through the above mentioned steps and taking medications on your own it is recommendable to consult a doctor.
