5 Top Home Remedies For Thyroid


Thyroid diseases can cause goiter and nodules in the gland. The pituitary gland regulates the production of the hormone. If there is too much hormone in the blood stream it sends signals to the thyroid gland to decrease the production. When there is a defect in the regulatory pathways it results in either hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism.

1 – Sunflower Seeds

Sunflower seeds are particularly good for treating thyroid problems as they have large quantities of vitamin B complex. These vitamins are essential for normal thyroid functioning. They prevent cell damage by inducing oxygenation and provide energy to the thyroid gland. Eat three teaspoons of sunflower seeds daily.


2 – Lemon Balm Tea

Lemon balm belongs to the mint family and has been in use since thousands of years for treating a wide range of diseases and disorders. It has calming and relaxing effects and induces a sense of well being. It corrects the function of the immune system and propounds the normal function of the thyroid gland. Boil one cup of water and steep a teaspoon of dried lemon balm leaves into it for ten minutes. Strain the infusion, add a teaspoon of honey and drink the tea. Drink three cups of this tea daily.

3 – Ginger Tea

Ginger contains the antioxidant compound known as gingerol. It removes the harmful free radicals from the body and enhances the immune system. Ginger is also rich in magnesium which is crucial for controlling thyroid problems, relaxing the muscles and keeping the thyroid gland healthy.

Put to boil one cup of water. Add to it one teaspoon of freshly grated ginger and boil for three minutes. Strain the tea, add a teaspoon of honey and drink it while it is hot. Drink three cups daily.


4 – Radish Juice

Radish has a multitude of health benefits which are important in the treatment of various diseases and disorders. It is rich in vitamin C which is a great antioxidant and in zinc which is an excellent stimulator.

It detoxifies the body and normalizes the function of the thyroid gland. Radish also contains raphanin which is a chemical that helps in maintaining normal levels of thyroid hormones. Grate a big radish and squeeze the pulp to extract the juice. Drink a glass of radish juice everyday.


5 – Kelp

Kelp is seaweed which is very nourishing, tasty and savory. It has huge medicinal values and people who consume it on a regular basis keep very healthy and strong. Kelp is rich in vitamins and minerals and it has large concentrations of iodine which makes it very valuable in treating thyroid problems. Eat a tablespoon of kelp with your food daily.
