5 Tips for Keeping Your Lungs Clean

5 Tips for Keeping Your Lungs Clean

Smokers and people living in polluted cities inhale large volumes of smoke and pollutants each day. The smokes, environmental toxins and mucus accumulate in the lungs and block the airways, leading to breathing problems.

Lungs are one of the most delicate organs of the body. If steps are not taken to remove the toxic substances from the lungs, the pollutants building up inside the lungs will damage the lung tissues, leading to severe lung ailments and even lung cancer.

5 Tips for Keeping Your Lungs Clean

Green tea

Drink a cup of your favourite herbal green tea before bed to release toxins in the intestine that can lead to constipation. Refrain from overloading your lungs with tedious work during this purification process.

Hot shower

A 20-minute hot bath daily will aid in removing toxins. You could also add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to hot water and inhale the steam to purify your lungs naturally. The expectorant compound found in eucalyptus helps in soothing sore throat, congestion and sinus problems.

Deep breathing exercises

Deep breathing exercises could clean the lungs. Inhaling air through the nose and exhaling air through the mouth could effectively clean the lungs. The time taken to exhale air through the mouth should be longer than the time taken to inhale air. If you count three to inhale air, you should count six to exhale air.

Aerobic exercises

Aerobic exercises that force you to breathe harder could help to clear your lungs. Brisk walking, cardio workouts and swimming are good for the lungs.

Expectorants

Mucus clogging the airways could be loosened by taking a suitable expectorant. Once the mucus loosens, it could be easily expelled through coughing. Hot and spicy foods could loosen mucus. Hot peppers, horseradish and warm beverages could break up the mucus. The thick mucus could be liquefied by inhaling eucalyptus, jasmine or peppermint essential oil. Cedar, myrrh and thyme essential oil could act as expectorant. You can massage the chest with a suitable essential oil several times a day.
