Headaches are one of the most common health problems that affects most people at one time or another. Headache is the sensation of pain in and around the head. This is one of the most common problems and almost everybody experiences this pain at some point in their lives.
Headaches are commonly of three types- tension headaches, migraine headaches and cluster headaches. Most commonly people complain of tension headaches.
Causes of Headache: There can be many causes of a headache such as physiological changes in the head, constriction of blood vessels, abnormal neuron activity, genetic causes, excessive smoking, excessive drinking, lack of water in the body, oversleeping, overuse of pain killers, eye strain, neck strain, lack of sleep, tension, stress, blood pressure and diabetes.
Symptoms of Headache: Pain in the head region, disturbance in thought process, feeling lethargic etc. Headache itself may be a symptom of some other health problem. If the headache is not severe and is not mainly due to migraine, home remedies can help to treat the pain.
Effective Home Remedies For Headache
The herb rosemary helps to reduce headache because it contains rosmarinic acid which has anti-inflammatory function. Blanch few leaves of rosemary herb and add it to boiling water. Cool the mixture, add a spoon of honey and drink it. This therapy is very effective to get rid of headaches.
Lemon juice or the crust of lemon can provide relief from headache. Drinking of tea made with the juice of lemon helps to treat headache very quickly.
Crush and dry the crust of ripe and make it into powdered form. Make a paste out of this powdered crust of lemon and apply on the forehead. As and when the paste will dry, it will give relief from headache.
Paste Prepared From Home Products
Pastes prepared with products available at home and applied locally on the forehead can provide relief from headaches. Prepare a paste of powdered cinnamon and little water and apply it on the forehead. This will help to reduce the pain in the head. Paste prepared with chandan and water and applied locally on the head helps to cure headaches. Applying a paste of few cloves or ginger powder in water also helps to reduce the symptoms of headache.
As the common saying goes ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’, an apple a day also keeps the headaches away. You should eat one peeled apple every morning empty stomach with salt to reduce headaches. Drinking warm water or milk after the apple is advisable for better effectiveness.
Smelling the soothing scent of lavender essential oil can be of great help in relieving tension headaches. It can also help improve migraine symptoms. Take a few drops of lavender essential oil on a tissue and inhale it. You can also add two drops of lavender oil to two cups of boiling water and inhale the steam.
One of the most easy and effective remedy for headaches is massaging the head with some essential oils. Massaging helps in reducing the tightening of the muscles and also improves blood circulation in and around the head.
It is always better to ask someone else to do the massage for you. Massaging the head, scalp and the neck region with almond oil, coconut oil or eucalyptus oil will help to reduce the pain.
Inhaling of steam of water which contains some natural products help to reduce headache. Inhale the steam of water which contains few drops of eucalyptus oil.
This will help to treat headaches caused due to migraine or sinus. Add a spoon of honey and apple cider vinegar to boiling water and inhale the steam of it. This will also cure headaches.
